Volunteers and Elections
District Government Employees Federal Credit Union's officials are all members who volunteer their services. Each month they spend countless hours making important decisions regarding the future direction of our financial cooperative. Their ability to look at their work through volunteers' eyes is an important reason for our financial strength. Nationwide, more than 25,000 volunteers protect their fellow members' interests by serving on credit union committees and boards of directors. Credit unions are unique among financial institutions in this regard.

Another aspect of credit unions that makes them unique is the participation of members in annual meetings and the election of officials. Each year we hold our annual membership meeting in the month of June.

The Nominating Committee invites you to consider being a candidate for election for service on either the board of directors or the credit committee. If you believe you have expertise that could benefit your fellow members and you have the time to serve, please consider volunteering to run for office. Watch for our Nominating Committee's Call for Nominees in the Fall edition of the Capital Currents newsletter. Information required for being considered for the Nominating Committee's slate of candidates will be set forth in the newsletter.

In addition to elective office, there are also appointment opportunities on various committees of the board of directors. Since members of the board of directors and other committee members, as well as staff, have the responsibility for making sound financial impacting decisions for your credit union, to be considered, you must have practiced and maintained a high standard of creditworthiness and demonstrated a pattern of saving with the credit union.

Serving on either the Board of Directors, the Credit Committee or other committees will take up more than a few hours of your time-but it will be time well spent! You're sure to derive a great deal of satisfaction from knowing that you did your part to help ensure our credit union's continued success. In other words, the pay is nonexistent, but the benefits are great!
